SNEAKERS ARE THE NEW SHOES

Most serious fashion writers would scoff at the idea of wearing sneakers anywhere but the gym. I wholeheartedly disagree and think sneakers can be worn anytime you’re wearing jeans. I know a lot of fashion magazines swear by wearing shoes with jeans but I’ve always found that combination particularly hideous. I also think that the shoes created to be worn with jeans have resulted in some pretty horrible shoes. This combo gives you the look of a father who is going out to eat for the first time in 20 years and just put on whatever his wife told him to. Shoes also cause your jeans not to fall correctly and you end up with a frumpy look. Now, just because I’m saying it’s okay to wear sneakers almost anywhere doesn’t give you the right to wear just any sneakers. They have to be casual so put away any athletic looking high tops or shoes designed for running marathons. You want to stick with the classics. My top three choices for sneakers to wear when you’re out on the town is the Nike Air Force 1, Air Max 95, or Nike Shox CL. Throw a pair of these on, preferably in all white, with a really nice pair of jeans and a fitted Thomas Pink button down and you’re good to go. You could also rock sneakers and jeans with a crisp polo, preferably one by Ralph Lauren. This is the perfect outfit for any bar or club and I don’t get why people still keep pushing us to wear jeans and shoes. There are 90 guys at the club at any given moment wearing a striped button down from Express Men with a pair of Kenneth Cole Reaction shoes. Why do I need to be the 91st? It’s a weird look and I refuse to take part in it. If I’m going to be forced to wear shoes then I’m just going to wear slacks because sneakers and shoes do not belong together. Another great look is a white V-neck, motorcycle cut leather jacket, with dark jeans, and a nice pair of white Nike kicks. Once you get used to dressing up your sneakers you can start to experiment and you won’t be so limited. For example, the Air Jordan 11 is a very cool sneaker that can easily be dressed up and be made nightclub worthy. Remember though, you want to stick with black, grey, and white. There’s no room for red, purple, and yellow sneakers when you’re hitting the town. There is also absolutely no room for dirty sneakers. I think this is part of the reason sneakers have gotten such a bad rap, because people were showing up to the club in filthy red and yellow kicks. If you fools would have had a little common sense we could wear sneakers and look fresh in peace without somebody telling us it’s against the dress code. Sneakers and jeans guys need to represent so it becomes the norm. But for now, keep a pair of shoes in your trunk just in case. You’ll look way worse but it’s better than having to go home I guess.
