I hate to be the bearer of bad news but 99% of you guys who are shaving your heads have no idea what you’re doing, either that or someone replaced your razor with a dull rock. The ideal shaved head has not a hair, not a patch of stubble on it. There’s a science to it and since I’ve mastered the technique I’m going to share the 7 rules for the perfect head shave.
Rule #1: The only place to really shave your head is in a hot shower. It makes the hair nice and soft so it’s easy to glide the razor through. Make sure you let your head really soak in the hot water and steam.
Rule #2: Unless you’re spending a couple of lazy days in the house alone, shaving your head every day is a must. Not doing so defeats the purpose of having a shaved head.
Rule #3: Stick to shave gels. Foam will do in a pinch but the gels are easier to massage into the scalp which is an important part of the head shave. You want to really work the gel in. It makes for a smooth shaving experience.
Rule #4: Get yourself a good razor. Disposables aren’t going to cut it. Get a multi-blade razor. If cost is an issue, which is understandable when you find yourself paying 20 plus bucks for a pack of cartridges then try the pharmacy brand razors. Most of the big chains have their own brand of razors and not only are they good but you can pick them up at about a quarter of the cost.
Rule #5: When you’re shaving your head always go against the grain. This is mandatory because shaving your head is not like shaving your face. A little shadow is unacceptable. You want it as clean as humanly possible.
Rule #6: This is the most important rule and it separates the men from the boys. If you don’t have a lot planned for the day then shaving your head normally should be fine. However, if you’re going out with the guys or on a date then the second shave is necessary. After you’re done shaving feel around to see if you missed any spots. If you did, give those spots a quick once over with the razor. After you do that, reapply shave gel and do a full second shave, focusing on darker spots, and again always go against the grain.
Rule #7: As soon as you get out of the shower apply a generous layer of post shave balm for sensitive skin. It’s key that you do this as soon as you step out of the shower so your head is still moist and your pores are still open. This will soothe any irritation and give your head a very smooth feel.
If you follow these 7 rules, you will have the type of shaved head that people really notice and the ladies love. It will be smooth and soft as all hell with not a trace of stubble to be found. People will assume you’re rich because no average man could have such a clean shave and there’s a 99.9% chance you will have regular sex with supermodels if you follow these rules. Well, that might not be true but you never know and at least you’ll look good.
