Girls in the porn industry come and go every day, literally. Thousands have performed in an adult movie never to return again. Some stay for a short time and some make a career of it. A bunch are even popular enough to warrant the title of “porn star”. However, the list of girls who become true superstars in the industry, so much so that they even permeate the mainstream is very short. One such girl is Wicked Pictures contract star, Asa Akira. From the moment she began making films Asa was an instant sensation, gaining millions of fans all over the world. It’s not a surprise and should probably be attributed to the fact that she is drop dead gorgeous, genuinely a sweet person, or because she performs with gusto that very, very few, if any, performers have ever matched. Men’s Mag Daily sat down with the Japanese beauty to discuss her experiences in the porn industry, her adoring fans, and of course her sex life. Plus we tried to weasel our way into one of her shoots and possibly get a date out of it because, hey, that’s what we do.
MMD:
Asa Akira: It sounds strange, but I’ve always been attracted to the sex industry. I was a hypersexual kid; I’ve been masturbating for as long as I can remember. Putting my sexuality on display, being an exhibitionist, is something that came naturally to me early on. When I was working in the dungeon, and later at the strip club, I wanted to do porn, but I didn’t think I ever actually would- I didn’t know anyone in porn, I didn’t even know anyone who knew anyone in porn. It seemed like this far-fetched dream that I would never have the balls to achieve. That all changed when I met Gina Lynn, and all of a sudden porn became a realistic goal. I shot my first boy/girl sex scene for her production company, and a week later I was on a flight to LA to start my career.
MMD: Very few girls in the adult industry reach superstar status. What is it about you that has enabled you to become the biggest girl in the business and did you expect to get this big?
Asa Akira: I owe my success to these facts. First, there aren’t many Asian girls in the business, so that alone guaranteed me a certain amount of success. The demand is high, but the supply is low. Second, I genuinely enjoy having sex, I genuinely enjoy performing in front of the camera, and that translates across the screen. Third, Mark Spiegler, the best agent in porn, represents me. And fourth, I have good work ethic and a pleasant attitude. When I first got into porn, I had a feeling I would do well. I think if you don’t have that feeling when you’re getting into porn, you should probably venture elsewhere. Porn changes your life, and limits you in a lot of areas of your future. It better be worth it.
MMD: Now I know this is a common question and you might feel like you should answer yes for your fans but do you really and truly enjoy yourself during scenes?
Asa Akira: I do. I love to be watched. Thinking about people getting off to me, gets me off. I’m a total attention whore in that way.
MMD: Do you prefer doing scenes with guys or girls and is it a lot different on set with a guy than it is with a girl?
Asa Akira: Fucking a guy is totally different than fucking a girl, for me. With a guy, I like to be manhandled, and get thrown around like a rag doll, and just have a million orgasms. With a girl, it’s more of an exploration- I take my time to figure out what she’s into, what drives her crazy, what makes her cum. I guess you could say I’m more selfish with men. It’s impossible to say which I prefer- the ideal situation is to have equal amounts of both types of scenes.
MMD: Who are some of your favorite performers to work with and who do you want to work with that you haven’t gotten the chance to yet?
Asa Akira: It sounds almost too simple, but I really just like anyone who number one is into me and number two is into fucking me. London Keyes and Jessica drake are some of my favorite girls. For guys, I think the European guys are really great. They are generally super pervy, and have an “anything goes” mentality. I like that. I’d love to work with Eva Lin one day.
MMD: Have you ever worked with somebody and had such a bad experience you never wanted to work with them again?
Asa Akira: Yes. It’s happened twice. I put them on my “no-list” on the way home. In both cases, it wasn’t that they did anything horrible- the vibe just wasn’t there. If there’s no chemistry, they go on my “no-list”. That’s my rule.
MMD: You’re Japanese so in the business you’re classified as Asian. Are you a fan of the other Asian performers who were very famous such as Kobe Tai and Asia Carrera?
Asa Akira: It’s hard for me to say who’s famous or not, because I’m on the inside of the business, looking out. There are so many amazing Asian performers, London Keyes, Dana Vespoli, Katsuni, Jessica Bangkok, Mika Tan, and Cindy Starfall. Some of them are retired now but I have a lot of respect for these ladies.
MMD: How do fans react to you when they see you in the street or at a convention? Has any fan had the nerve to actually hit on you and have you ever given your number to a fan? I’m very curious about this because you’re so sweet and approachable.
Asa Akira: I love when fans approach me. Again, the attention whore thing. I’ve never given my number to a fan, but I’ve also never given my number to someone I met randomly on the street or in public. It’s just not my style. I’ve always been very cautious of who I give my personal information out to.
MMD: What did it feel like to win the AVN Female Performer of the Year award in 2013? What do you think makes you the best performer?
Asa Akira: It felt amazing. It’s silly because it’s ultimately an award for fucking and sucking but it feels great to be considered the best at something no matter what it is. I take pride in my work and felt the award was deserved that year. I’m proud of it.
MMD: Is there any sexual fantasy you haven’t fulfilled yet and if so what is it?
Asa Akira: I’d love to fuck a transexual.
MMD: You had a cameo in the movie Starlet and you did a really good job. You came off very genuine and funny. Do you plan to pursue more mainstream roles?
Asa Akira: Film-wise, if something fell into my lap, I’d take it but I’m not actively pursuing it. I wrote a book last year, which comes out this May through Grove Press. It’s titled “Insatiable” and I can’t wait for everyone to read it. I really poured my heart and soul into it. I also co-host a podcast called DVDASA with my friend David Choe.
MMD: What is the greatest sexual experience you’ve ever had in your life that wasn’t in front of the camera?
Asa Akira: I saw a shooting star while I was getting fucked by a guy I was in love with on a beach in Mexico. It sounds corny but when gang bangs and DP’s are a regular part of your sex life the cheesy romantic stuff becomes the crazy fantasy.
MMD: Since you’re a porn star, does a guy have to have a huge penis to satisfy you? And be honest with all the fans out there.
Asa Akira: Honestly, no. Big dicks are great for porn but for everyday usage I prefer something more normal sized. I would take a below average dick over an above average one.
MMD: I’m a little offended that I didn’t get to meet you in person but Kassem G got a lap dance. If I am ever in LA can you promise me a lap dance, a date, or at least a visit to one of your shoots?
Asa Akira: What do you look like? (Laughs)
MMD: Okay Asa, so you’re a very busy girl. Tell the fans at MMD what you have coming up that we should be looking out for in terms of releases, where we can find your site, your Twitter, anything you want to tell them.
Asa Akira: My website is AsaAkira.com and of course you can also see a ton of my scenes at Wicked.com. My twitter is @AsaAkira and my Instagram is @asahole. My book “Insatiable” comes out May 6, 2014. It’s available for pre-order on Amazon now. I have a bi-weekly podcast, DVDASA.com which is also available on iTunes. I also have three signature Fleshlights, which are molds of all three of my molds. My latest movie is “Asa Gets Wicked” from Wicked Pictures.
