There are a lot of cool gadgets available in 2014 and easily one of the coolest is the DoorBot. DoorBot is a wireless doorbell that allows you to stream live video directly to your iPhone, iPad, or Android. Now, I’m sure this works wonderfully for people who want to see if intruders are lurking at their front door but I personally like it for its more practical purposes such as seeing if it’s the FedEx guy at the door. Do you think I want to miss him when he’s holding my package from Amazon that contains Seasons 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead? I think not. God forbid I run down to the basement and miss the pizza guy, all hell will break loose. DoorBot prevents these problems and can keep you in bed while your crazy ex-girlfriend is ringing the bell. The newest DoorBot design is 33% smaller than the original model and they even got rid of the AA batteries it used to run on and now operates on an internal rechargeable lithium polymer battery that lasts for over a year. It can also attach to existing doorbell wiring for both charging and ringing of the bell. The built in Wi-Fi allows you to monitor your front door from anywhere. It’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and Android and can sync with multiple smartphones and tablets. Cooler still is the night vision camera which provides clear video around the clock. The best part of it all is that this is all controlled by a free app so you click a button and are able to see everything that is going on at your front door. DoorBot runs for $199 bucks and if you buy it with Lockitron you get both for $349 bucks. Lockitron is the perfect companion for the DoorBot. With this added little device you can see who is at your front door and let them in through the DoorBot app. And you know what that means, don’t you? No more having to get off the couch when someone comes a knockin’. See who it is with DoorBot and let ‘em in with Lockitron. Maybe even cooler than that is the fact that you can lock your door from anywhere in the world using your smartphone. They even have a feature called Sense so if you use an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, you can enable Lockitron to sense when you walk up to the door and unlock for you. How badass is that? You’re bringing a lady friend home for the night and you unlock your door with no key at which point you just give her a look that says, “Yeah I just unlocked my door with no key.” The Lockitron fits over the inside of your current deadbolt. It’s on pre-order right now at the Lockitron store for $179 which isn’t a bad deal but it’s obviously a better idea to buy it with the Doorbot and save the $30 bucks. Use it to buy a girl a couple of drinks after you just impressed her so much by knowing what she was wearing before you even saw her, and yes that’s another cool thing you can do with the device.
