There are a million adjectives that can be used to describe Cali Carter from beautiful, to sexy, to sweet, to gorgeous, to sexy, to hot, just take your pick. This Northern Cali native pretty much epitomizes what guys who aren’t from California think California girls are. She’s tiny, bubbly, with a stunning face and amazing body. Looking at her, you wouldn’t think she once took pre-med courses and was on her way to becoming a registered nurse but talk to her for a short while and her intelligence bursts through and it’s not only the type of intelligence you get from books but the kind that really matters, a sort of logical sensibility, a levelheadedness if you will and that’s not a word you’ll often associate with porn stars. Mens Mag Daily was able to sit down with the lovely Ms. Carter to discuss her road to the industry, why she’s different from other pornstars and her plans for the future.
Mens Mag Daily: Where are you from originally?
Cali Carter: I’m from Northern California, the Sacramento area.
Mens Mag Daily: How did you get into the adult industry?
Cali Carter: I went online, it was really easy actually. I put up a resume on sexyjobs.com. I had an agency contact me and we stayed on the phone for about an hour just talking about the business, what I needed, what I could expect and stuff like that. They set up a date to fly me out. I flew out on a weekend. That weekend I met producers, signed with an agency, and did my first blowjob scene. It’s pretty crazy how easy it was actually.
Mens Mag Daily: What made you decide that this was the career path for you?
Cali Carter: It’s a funny story actually. I was a straight A student in high school and I went on to college where I got a degree in science. I wanted to start an RN program but when I went to the financial aid office I had run out of financial aid. I figured it was no big deal and that I would just get a loan but when I went to the loan office they saw that I owned my own home and my own car and said my debt to income ratio was too high. The woman there told me to save up money and pay my debts off and then go back and see her. It really sucked. I got a license to be a CNA and I worked at an elder care home. I also worked as a bartender so I worked two jobs for about 8 months. I was burnt out. I had no social life, I could barely sleep, and I could barely do anything. My boyfriend at the time recommended that I do porn. He thought I would do well. I told him I wasn’t going to do it. I was thinking about it for 3 or 4 months and January rolled around so I figured new year, new start. That’s when I made up the resume.
Mens Mag Daily: Did you ever think you would be doing this?
Cali Carter: No not at all. It’s funny too because I hardly even watched it before I got into the industry. I didn’t know what to expect. For as long as I could remember I always wanted to do things the right way, go to school, do what I’m supposed to do. Following all those rules didn’t work out and I couldn’t be a server for the rest of my life. I don’t regret any of it at all. I love the business. I love the people in it. It’s a new side of me and I really do adore the industry. It sounds weird but it’s true.
Mens Mag Daily: Were you very sexual before you actually got into it?
Cali Carter: I was but I had only been with 5 guys so I wasn’t the town slut. I was just very sexual with the one person I was with. I figured I had a support system behind me so why not give it a shot? Sometimes life presents opportunities and you’re not what they thought they would be. I decided to give it a try before I knocked it.
Mens Mag Daily: When you first started was it what you thought it would be?
Cali Carter: It was a little bit different. There was a documentary on Netflix called Life After Porn so I watched that and it kind of told you the good things and the bad things about porn. I was able to prepare myself for it a little bit. The business was different than it was 10 or 15 years ago, it’s not all glamour. It’s more of a business now. There’s a million ways to make sure that the business is legal and safe. It was actually better than what I expected. I thought it would be a little scummier. I approached it with an expect the worst and hope for the best mindset. Everybody was polite and nice. It helped me build my confidence. It’s definitely a lot different from what I expected.
Mens Mag Daily: Were you nervous for the first scene you shot?
Cali Carter: Oh god yes, it’s actually really funny. The first scene I ever did was a very simple blowjob scene. I was super nervous. All of a sudden as soon as the camera was on it was like a different person came out of me. It was like the sexy Cali Carter. I was so ready. I was worried about everything beforehand and I kept thinking that I wanted to stay hydrated so I kept drinking blue PowerAde and during the scene you can see that my tongue is blue. It’s a huge amateur move and even to this day my friends make fun of me. (Laughs)
Mens Mag Daily: You don’t seem like a conventional pornstar.
Cali Carter: I’m different from like 9 out of the 10 girls you might see in porn. I’m always interested in the other girls’ stories and some of them came from a bad background, or were strippers, or models and they somehow just got into it. I don’t want to say they were pinned up against it but it seems like it was more connected to their past whereas I completely branched off from what I was doing. I would say I’m completely different.
Mens Mag Daily: Is this something you see yourself doing long term?
Cali Carter: I wouldn’t say really long term. When I think long term I would say like 5 years. I don’t really want to play the MILF role. I’m only five feet tall. I’m really tiny so trying to play the MILF role would be really hard. (Laughs) I plan on being really smart with my money, investing it, and then doing something else I really want to do. It might be in the porn industry. I’m really organized and OCD so I might start an agency. I’m always on top of my shit. I also do photography on the side. I’m sure I can learn to be a camerawoman and make my own content. As long as I’m smart with my money I’ll be fine. I don’t want to be in the business when I’m 30. I would like to start a family and have a normal life.
Mens Mag Daily: You answer questions differently from other girls. Not a lot of girls mention starting a family.
Cali Carter: That’s something I’ve always wanted. The only reason why I don’t do it now is because I have a career and I wouldn’t be able to give somebody all of my attention and that’s not fair. If I’m going to do it I’m going to do it right. I want to be able to give my kid everything.
Mens Mag Daily: What did the people in your life think about when you made the decision to do porn?
Cali Carter: It’s funny; I was just explaining this to somebody. I come from a really small town and I went to Kindergarten and I have three older brothers so my friends range in age from 20-40. When everybody found out they were shocked. I was supposed to be the goody two shoes girl who went to school and everything. They think like this sexual deviant came out of me and they ask me about my morals but those are the people that don’t know about porn. Until you’re in my shoes you can’t really talk. People underestimate porn. It’s a business. Just because I’m doing something now doesn’t mean I’ll be doing it forever. When I’m on set I’m Cali and when I’m home I’m not that girl. A lot of people stopped talking to me back home and told me what I was doing was shameful. Other people didn’t care at all and told me I had guts. There’s a quote from Dr. Seuss that says, “The people who mind don’t matter and the people who matter don’t mind” and that’s how I live my life. All of the people in my life who matter to me didn’t mind at all.
Mens Mag Daily: And how did your family deal with it?
Cali Carter: It took them a really long time to cool down and deal with it. They told me I was giving the family a bad rep. My family didn’t find out for the first year. They were all nervous that everybody was going to find out like it was just the beginning of it but everybody already knew so this was the end of it. They were nervous that they were going to get run out of town. I had to sit down with them and tell them that it wasn’t the 1960’s and financially it was smart. The first two weeks were rough but they came around, they just don’t want to hear about it. We still have dinner twice a week; we just don’t talk about work. I understand their point of view.
Mens Mag Daily: Are you single?
Cali Carter: I am.
Mens Mag Daily: What type of guys do you like?
Cali Carter: I like guys who are just a little bit older but not so old they can’t keep up with me. I want somebody who will treat me like a lady and open the door and help me out. I don’t want a guy who thinks he can talk dirty to me whenever he wants. In the bedroom he can say whatever he wants but that’s different. It’s like a lady in the streets but a freak in the streets type of situation. I like guys who are clean cut and I usually like blue eyes but I always give everybody a chance. The last 5 guys I dated were all totally different. I also like a guy who is smart and can have a conversation.
Mens Mag Daily: Were you into girls before you got into porn?
Cali Carter: Porn just opened it up for me. I always had an idea that I might have been but I come from such a small town that it wasn’t accepted. I was always checking out girls though. I had never done anything with them. I’ve made out with a girl but we were both drunk and it was just for shits and giggles or to get attention in a bar or something. I did my very first girl/girl on webcam. I was so nervous because I was about to kiss a girl that I just met. I started getting really nervous when they wanted us to do 69. I remember being so into it and loving having her body wrapped around me, it was so hot. I actually have a girlfriend now. I met her in the industry at the AVN awards and she’s one of the more down to earth girls in the industry and not a lot of girls are like that. I don’t like hanging out with a lot of girls in the business. I try but you can only be around a lot of them for so long but that goes for people in any profession too. There’s good and bad.
