Nike and Jordan Brand don’t always strike gold with their colorways. In fact, they probably miss more often than they hit which is why when a new classic emerges, it’s cause for celebration. And this seems to be the case with the new Barons colorway which was introduced a few months back on the Retro 9’s and will soon make its debut on the classic 13’s. The Barons colorway pays homage to Michael Jordan’s time as a minor league baseball player for the Birmingham Barons. It might just be the best thing to come out of that short lived baseball career. Nike and Jordan Brand did something they don’t often do, they kept it simple. How could you not have a hit on your hands with black, grey, and white? It worked on the original 10’s and it’s killing it as the new Barons colorway. Putting them on the 9’s and now the 13’s was also a smart move on their part. It had been a while since the 9’s had a big hit and this colorway definitely breathed some much needed life into them. The Photo Blues sure didn’t do it. And now by putting them on the 13’s, a shoe that has a serious cult following among Jordan enthusiasts, they’re solidifying the legacy of the 13. With the white base and the grey toe the basis of the shoe is clean and crisp. The back and bottom middle of the shoe is almost like a patent leather with an almost iridescent glow. The Jumpman on the tongue is Columbia blue and of course it comes with the classic Air Jordan 13 hologram. This Barons colorway is here to stay and I’m looking forward to seeing it on more Jordans in the near future. Just imagine this Baron colorway on any Jordan sneaker and you’ll see Nike hit on a winner.
