If there is one thing a gentleman should always do, it is be accommodating and unselfish. There is one area of life in which this is especially true, and while to some may seem insignificant, its importance can’t be stressed enough. One thing a gentleman must always do is give up his seat for a lady whether he’s on the bus, the train, or in a crowded bar. Just last week I was on the subway and it was very crowded and very hot. A pregnant woman boarded the train and not one man offered up his seat. I was disgusted and I wish there was something I could have done but I was standing myself. The woman was obviously uncomfortable and needed to sit down. How far have we fallen? You have to do better guys and here are the rules when it comes to giving up your seat. If you’re on any form of crowded public transportation and a lady boards then you are to get up immediately and offer your seat. If she says no, then insist, she’ll take it. This doesn’t just apply to pregnant women, elderly ladies, or women that look like Mila Kunis. This applies to any and all women. You give up that seat immediately and if she’s bogged down with shopping bags and stuff help her get settled into the seat. Another situation where there might be limited seating is a crowded bar. Let’s say you’re waiting for a table at a restaurant and there’s a free seat offer it to the woman who’s standing there in six inch heels. She will undoubtedly appreciate it. Another rule of thumb is never sit down and leave a woman standing. Imagine you’re on a date and you sit down, leaving your girl standing there like she’s at a bus stop. It’s free to be a gentleman and in this generation we need all the help we can get.
