2015: A BIG YEAR FOR MOVIES

2015 looks like it’s going to be a big year for movies. Many big budget blockbuster sequels are being released as well as some flicks that are sure to become cult classics and even one movie adapted from a TV show. We’ll only be talking about the manliest of films because frankly, we couldn’t care less about 50 Shades of Grey so let’s take a look at what the world of film has in store for us in 2015.

Bond 24: Daniel Craig is reprising his role as the ultra-cool spy in this follow up to Skyfall. It’s really no surprise as Skyfall was one of the most critically acclaimed Bond movies ever made and there have been quite a few. There’s also the fact that Skyfall pulled in a billion dollars. Bond 24 is a shoe in and will likely pull in another billion.

Avatar 2: Avatar was an integral part of the whole 3D thing. James Cameron is a money magnet as Avatar raked in close to three billion dollars. We’re sure he’s got something special planned for the sequel and we might be looking at the highest grossing film ever.

The Avengers 2: The Age of Ultron: The Avengers was a really good movie and kept Marvel fans across the globe happy. A sequel or two was inevitable and in part 2 Ultron is the new enemy. Hulk, Thor and of course Ironman are all geared up for action. Robert Downey Jr. has made Ironman one of the, if not the, most popular superheroes around. He’s pretty much the anchor of this Marvel vehicle and with him at the helm the money is going to continue to roll in.

Ant Man - Marvel

Ant-Man: Marvel is not stopping anytime soon. They’re introducing the world to a new character in Ant-Man. Paul Rudd is taking on the title role and at the very least that seems like an interesting choice. Rudd is a great actor and it should be fun to see him in such a different type of role. New superhero movies have been met with mixed reviews but given that it’s Marvel and will absorb some of the buzz from the Avengers 2 it will likely be a blockbuster hit.

Entourage: It’s been a few years since the show ended and Mark Wahlberg was finally able to get the guys of Entourage together for the feature length film based on the TV show.  We’re not sure if the movie will pick up where the show ended or but E, Turtle, Vince, Drama, and Ari are all on board so that means millions of Entourage fan boys will be lined up around the block when it comes to theaters.

mov6

Mission Impossible 5: It’s hard to believe that we’ve seen four of these movies already, but hey, if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it right? Ghost Protocol kind of gave MI a kick start so part 5 was inevitable. Tom Cruise is getting up there in years so this is likely the last one, at least with him at the helm but this one likely to be a hit.

mov8

Killer Crow: This is Quentin Tarantino’s next opus and I’m not sure exactly how this is working but it supposedly ties together Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained. Anyway, Tarantino has a knack for making even the strangest of topics pretty damn entertaining. It’s not going to make Avatar money but it will kill at the box office and keep his core audience happy.

mov9

Fast & Furious 7: It’s crazy that this franchise is still going strong after this many installments and shows no signs of slowing down. The whole crew is back including Vin Diesel of course, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese, and the list goes on. Jason Statham is playing the villain which is sure to breathe even more life into the franchise overall. Paul Walker is in the movie which is awesome because he will be immortalized in a movie which I’m sure he loved being a part of. May he rest in peace.

mov10

Point Break: I have mixed feelings about his one. Point Break is a cult classic and Keanu Reeves is still in his forties so is a reboot really warranted? But hey, that’s Hollywood nowadays. It’s all reboots and sequels. Luke Bracey will play Johnny Utah and Edgar Ramirez will play Bodhi, rest in peace to Patrick Swayze. It’s a movie about surfing and bank robberies so kids who weren’t old enough to see the original will likely give it a look and the Point Break purists will go out of curiosity so overall Point Break should be a success.

mov11

Star Wars Episode VII: The movie is set about 30 years after Return of the Jedi and George Lucas will be a creative consultant. What else is there to say? It’s Star Wars. They could show three hours of paint drying and there would be a million people camped outside of the theater dressed like Darth Vader.

mov13

Jurassic World: This fourth installment of the Jurassic Park franchise suffered setback after setback, taking over 10 years to get a release date. In this installment, rumor has it that Jurassic World, an amusement park, is suffering from a lack of interest. The owners try to gain back its popularity with the introduction of a new attraction and all hell breaks loose. I guess it could be good. Ten years is a long time so it has to have appeal as a standalone feature as well as a sequel.

mov14

Straight Outta Compton: This biopic won’t kill at the box office but it’s an interesting subject as it tells the story of Dre, Cube, Yella, Ren, and Eazy-E, the five young me who made up the hip-hop super group NWA. Ice Cube’s son is playing him so there should be a good level of authenticity and it should be cool to see exactly how the group came together and some of the stuff they had to deal with at the apex of their fame and success.
