First dates are important. You want to make an impression and show what type of man you are. Many men, however, make a terrible mistake when taking out a young lady for the first time. What mistake is that you ask? They set up a date that sets the bar so high that there’s no way they could continue to afford it. They buy tickets to a show, plus flowers, plus dinner at a nice restaurant and drinks. Depending on how much you spent on tickets, can you afford to go on this caliber of date once or twice a week or will doing so drain your savings before the month is up? Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating cheap dating. Your first date with a woman should never involve fast food but you might want to pace yourself here bud. I mean if you set the bar that high for date one everything else is going to be downhill, a slow decline toward mediocrity plus don’t think she won’t notice that date number one included filet mignon as she sits in TGI Friday’s on date number two. Dating is a marathon, not a sprint, so you want to put some good thought into it without breaking the bank. When I say put some good thought into it I don’t mean to take her on some ridiculous fucking outing that you’d see on a God awful dating show that includes rock climbing or bungee jumping. When I say good thought, I mean, how about instead of a Broadway show you take her to a museum? It’s infinitely cheaper but it still feels expensive and she’ll know you’re not an idiot. If you’re not a museum guy don’t force it because she’ll notice that you’re out of your depth. Instead, take her to a movie. You can’t talk at the movies but what the hell? The dinner and a movie date has led to a trillion happy couples so why should you be any different? As far as restaurants go, this is tougher as you do want to take her somewhere nice and nice costs money. Look for a restaurant that isn’t your traditional upscale restaurant. Take her somewhere where the food is just insane and has a less stuffy ambiance. She’ll appreciate the fact that you found a spot with such awesome food. The drinks will also likely be cheaper. Stay away from Pizzeria Uno or anything like that on date number one. After dinner, you have a few options. You can do drinks, dessert, or just go for a nice drive and take in the sights. If you know a place that has the most incredible cannoli then do that. If you want drinks take her to a cool bar, a joint that has character but where they won’t charge you for her Appletini. If the conversation is good take a walk or a drive. It’s romantic and doesn’t cost a cent. Trust me guys, save the super dates for when you get a raise. Follow these rules and you’ll be keeping it classy and romantic without going bankrupt.
